Vacancy for Compliance Officer incorporating role of DPO

Full time Permanent – Subject to Probation Period

First South Credit Union (FSCU) is currently seeking to recruit an experienced Compliance Officer to join its expanding team. FSCU is a Cork City based credit union with over 35,000 members, 5 branch locations and total assets exceeding €210M.

Reporting to the CEO and the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will join the management team and have responsibility for managing compliance and data protection at all levels in the Credit Union.

Key Competencies

  • Third level qualification in Law or Compliance with minimum of 3 years’ experience in compliance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to implement a positive compliance culture
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving and time management skills
  • Flexible and adaptable with a positive attitude to change
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Close attention to detail
  • Have an appropriate level of expertise in financial services and data protection law and practices
  • A qualification in compliance / data protection is beneficial

Key Responsibilities – Compliance

  • Ensure that the Credit Union complies with all statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor compliance to ensure that no conflict of interest arises
  • Advise and support the Board of Directors, CEO and staff in relation to compliance matters
  • Investigate and report any compliance breaches and recommend remediation actions to ensure compliance
  • Draft relevant policies, procedures and templates to support compliance
  • Monitor and oversee the Member complaints process
  • Establish and assess systems of control for compliance issues
  • Arrange and deliver relevant relevant training
  • Liaise with regulators on compliance issues
  • Promote a culture of compliance within the Credit Union

Key Responsibilities – Data Protection

  • Ensure that the Credit Union processes personal data in accordance with GDPR and applicable data protection requirements.
  • Monitor compliance with the above laws and requirements
  • Act as the point of contact with the Data Protection Commissioner including the reporting of any data breaches
  • Assist the Credit Union in demonstrating compliance with GDPR
  • Handle data access requests, document Data Protection Impact Assessments, advise on Data Processing Agreements and security measures, prepare Privacy Notices and other documentation, deliver training to staff and any other related activities.
